How could a trophy speak of the skills being awarded?

Inspired by the traditional craftsmanship of paper cutting and origami, our design for a pair of trophies for the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council is inspired from a simple sheet of paper before being transformed into a stereoscopic logo to express the process of construction.

The Construction Industry Council in Hong Kong promotes construction skills in Hong Kong. As part of its mission to promote construction excellence, CIC organized the 1st Hong Kong Construction Skills Competition to award various trades within the construction industry, separated into a youth group and an open group.

Our winning design questions whether the trophy could be more than just a typical design and speak more of the skills being awarded. Inspired by the process of transformation from drawings into reality, the design is thought of as a process. Through the ideas of origami, the idea of converting the two-dimensional into three-dimensional is represented formally.
